Our Story

The permanent site of C.O.E Mary was formally a Teachers Training College (TTC) from 1946 to 1980, and was later converted to Advanced Teachers College (ATC) from 1980 to 1986. However, the College was changed to its former status of Secondary School Certificate awarding institution from 1986 to 2000. And in October 2000, the democratic government upgraded the College to the status of Zamfara State College of Education, by an edict No. 25 of July, 2001.
The establishment of COE Maru in the state was however necessitated by the increasing manpower need to supply teachers for the primary and post primary schools across the state, in line with restructuring reforms from the regulatory body - National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) mandating all Colleges of Education to switch from subject base training of teachers to areas of specialisation within the basic education sub sector, COE Maru is now fully restructured to offer level specific teacher training programmes distributed in over 23 academic departments.
