TDP is spending time to review the Teacher Educators and Teaching Practise students in Zamfara state. First stop is the SPS Primary School in Jabaka, Maru LGA. This is Abdul Gafar, a Student Teacher from College of Education Maru. He is on Teaching Practise at SPS Jabaka.
Abdul is highlighting how the shift in teaching & learning is happening. From a previous teacher centered approach, to a learner centered approach, were the teacher is now more of a facilitator & the pupil is more involved. This is how to create thinking students.
These changes have depth. We supported a process at Colleges of Education in our target states to ensure that Teacher Educators change their mode of teaching. For instance, at CoE Maru, we started the Continuous Professional Development Programme (CPDC) for Lecturers.
CoE Maru has now graduated 2 cohorts of trainee from the CPDC programme and are on the 3rd one. Each cohort go through six training modules. Previous participants are now facilitators for upcoming cohorts. Here’s a cross section of a mix of participants and facilitators.
